ANIMAL STUDIES CLASS VISITS VETERINARY
CLINIC AND AQUARIUM
The YES Animal Studies class travelled to Whyalla and visited Dr Mustafa Bozkurt’s Veterinary Clinic and Ashleigh’s Aquariums in Term 2.
At the clinic, students were given a tour of the site, including the consultation suite, operating theatre and storage room, which used to be an old bank safe. In the operating theatre, students learned about the variety of objects found on animals, such as locating ticks on a dog, and also what sort of things were found inside animals when operated on, including gallstones and fur balls. They examined the X-ray machine, which uses a digital format now instead of film. Students were very grateful to the time Doctor Mustafa and his staff dedicated to them.
At Ashleigh’s Aquariums, Ashleigh gave students a tour of her store, including the reptile/amphibian area. They had the opportunity to hold a variety of snakes and learned about their habitat, diet, and enclosure setups. Students appreciated the time Ashleigh dedicated to them during their visit.
