‘ZOO SNOOZE’ AND UNI EXCURSION FOR YES STUDENTS
YES students and staff journeyed to Adelaide for an excursion, hosted by the University of Adelaide. They arrived in the city early and undertook a campus tour alongside students from the Whyalla Secondary College. Students participated in presentations about university life, accommodation services, scholarships and pathways into university. Next, they went to Government House for a tour and had the privilege of meeting Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson, Governor of South Australia. She discussed her passion for education and gave the students advice for navigating university and adult life. Then it was on to the excursion highlight- the ‘Zoo Snooze’ where students and staff spent the night in Adelaide Zoo. The students were most excited about seeing the baby tiger cubs during the night walk, even if they had to brave a storm to do so! After a well-deserved rest they returned to the University of Adelaide where they took part in AI and pitch writing masterclasses. They got to engage with academic leaders in the field and work together collaboratively to complete UoA ThincLab challenges. Everyone left feeling motivated, excited, and thoroughly exhausted after two jam-packed days. Teachers and staff were impressed with how well all students engaged with every activity.
