SPORTS DAY 2023
The annual Sports Day event returned to Braddock Oval this year which allowed students, staff and community members to congregate and create an atmosphere full of support and excitement which carried throughout the entire day. It was pleasing to share the day with local primary schools who had their Year 6 students compete in the under 12 age group and added to the positive sense of competition and community throughout the day.
We are thankful for the excellent support we received from a large number of local businesses, who generously offered their time, resources and donated prizes to ensure the effective running of the day. It was fantastic to be able to observe such a large number of our students willing to display their high levels of athletic ability with personal bests being achieved and some long-standing records becoming very close to being broken.
Aside from the athletics events, we had a vast range of fun, alternative activities offered at the southern end of the oval, thanks to the Novelties Team and Headspace. Hurdles also made an informal return as a novelty event. As the end of the day approached, Tug of War ultimately decided the winner of the House Shield. The new rope was put to the test, once again being the most participated event. It would be Spencer who would be too strong for the other houses as they would go on to win the House Shield by just 10 points, with Mambray and Wilpena tying for equal second at 340 points.
The day was well supported by students, staff and community members, with fantastic examples of determination, team spirit and support shown throughout the whole day. Through a combination of high athletic performances and participation rates, it was once again the Wilpena Sharks who would take out the Athletics Shield winning the day on 1004 points, followed by Mambray with 928 points and lastly Spencer on 823 points.
